It’s Madness, I tell you. Self-Care Madness!
A six-week series of in-person mini-workshops on Mondays beginning October 11. 5-6:15pm. In Portland, Oregon.
I generally define self-care as the practices that bring me closer to myself, to my sense of well-being and wholeness.
Recently, I’ve also begun to think of self-care as going on an adventure. An adventure into myself. An adventure that helps me become more me.
That’s what this workshop series is all about – adventuring into ourselves.
Our Allies:
Or, the tools we use to assist us in our adventuring.
- Wellbeing finding techniques from Ortho-Bionomy and beyond – simple, useful techniques to help us feel at ease and in our bodies as we travel along.
- Shiva Nata – Or, as my boyfriend prefers to call it: Crazy Monkey Dancing. We will practice the Art of Flailing Madly until our brains turn to mush, we are utterly confused and absolutely incapable of normal thought patterns. And, absolutely no previous experience with Shiva Nata is expected or required. If you have some, great. If not, you will be in fantastic company.
- Self-Inquiry and Free-Writing – I will pose several questions and you will scribble frantically, desperately attempting to keep up with all the wondrous insights emerging from your scrambled brain.
Each mini-workshop will consist of 20-30 minutes of self-care stuff followed by 30-45 mintutes of Shiva Nata. Each workshop will conclude with 15-20 minutes of free-writing.
The Themes
Class 1: Skill Gathering – my favorite techniques and tools (my treasures!) for meeting myself when things get difficult – for your Self-Care Magic Carpet Bag.
Class 2: Qualities – What qualities would make it easier to help you support and nourish yourself on a daily basis? How can you connect with these qualities and bring more awareness of them into your daily life?
Class 3: Senses – how to engage the senses to bring you safely into your body and help you access your internal wisdom.
Class 4: Magical Listening – how to take care of yourself while listening to others and how to listen to yourself (and your body).
Class 5: Rest – exploring our relationships with rest and relaxation.
Class 6: Integration – how to integrate what we’ve learned about ourselves into our daily lives – how to keep this process of self-inquiry and self-listening alive and flourishing.
All the super basic details:
What is it? A six-week series of in-person mini-workshops.
When it is? Every Monday from Oct 11-Nov 15, 2010 from 5-6:15pm
Where is it? The Little Church! Possibly my favorite workshop venue ever. Address:
5138 NE 23rd Ave, Portland, OR 97211.
Who’s it for? A maximum of 8 Portland Shivanauts (or wanna-be Shivanauts) and other Self-Care Enthusiasts. Also, curious, adventurous, magically-inclined people wanting to learn more about what self-care means to them and how to incorporate that knowledge effortlessly into their daily lives.
What does it cost? $75 cash or check; $80 if you want to pay with a credit card.
Please note: the $75/$80 tuition is a very special price. This is the first time I’ve taught this series. The price reflects my first-timer’s status.
If you’re at all curious about this approach to self-care or just want to try out some Shiva Nata, now is the time! Plus, you’ll likely get to see me be all nervous and freak out about time management (or something else) and then (ideally) model my own self-care. Yikes!
How to sign up:
- Email me to let me know you are coming. This is very important since there are only 8 spots available and 3 of them are already gone. Include your name, phone number, twitter handle (if you have one) and either your favorite music to dance to or your current favorite self-care thing.
- If paying by cash or check, simply mail the check to me at: 2861 NE Martin Luther King Blvd, Portland, OR 97212.
- If paying with a credit card, make a note of that in your registration email and I’ll send you a money request from paypal.
- As soon as I have received your registration form and payment, I’ll send you an email that will contain more information (what to wear, what to bring, what to expect, etc).
- We meet at the scheduled time and the adventure begins!
